You begin to fly when you let go of self-limiting beliefs and allow your mind and aspirations to rise to greater heights" - Brian Tracy
We don’t reach our potential if we’re unable or unwilling to let go of our limiting beliefs. This is often the difference between the people who continue to learn and evolve versus those who don’t. Mindset can be just as important as ability.
With ability, it’s the limiting beliefs or convenient excuses that reduce the possibility of achieving outcomes in less time. Five common ability related limiting beliefs are:
Belief – That won’t work here
Reality – You won’t really know until you’ve tried it thoroughly
Belief – I’ve got too much to do
Reality – Is there a rhythm established based on the key important activities that drive success or does poor planning and scheduling cause you to focus too much on the wrong things?
Belief – I can’t do my work due to too many interruptions
Reality – Proactive steps haven’t been taken to manage interruptions
Belief – I’m efficient, therefore I’m productive
Reality – Being efficient isn’t the same as being productive. Efficiency equals speed whereas productivity equals outcomes
In order to maximise our potential, we need to let go of the limiting beliefs that are holding us back. Be open to new ways and be expert at taking the action that matters most. If you’re unable to do this yourself then consider getting help from a coach or a mentor to support your transition from limited to limitless
